September 2010 Camera and Lens announcements - Pre Photokina 2010

In September, we usually see most of the camera and lens announcements.  Nikon, Samsung, Canon, Pentax and Olympus, already announced new cameras. But this is just the beginning. Photokina 2010 even will start on September 21, 2010. When it stars, we will hear new camera and lens announcements. Let's just hope that the leading manufacturers saved the best for last.

A disappointment with the

Samsung NX100 Mirrorless Camera with i-Function lens support

A mirrorless camera is an alternative to a DSLR. Mirrorless cameras are compact cameras with large ASP-C sensor. These cameras bring image quality, speed, interchangeable lenses and portability to the hands of advanced  photographers. Samsung is another company to enter the market with a new mirrorless camera, the NX100. The Samsung NX100 is intended for both beginner and advanced photographers.

The new SX30 IS is replacing the older version, the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. Canon really managed to surprise us, by implementing a 24-840mm (35mm equiv.) 35x zoom lens on the SX30 IS. DIY Macro lens for photographers on a really tight budget

If you are really on a tight budget, like a Pringles-can budget for a macro lens, don't worry. PhotoCritic.org editor has found a really cheap way to create a DIY macro lens by using a fixed lens, body cap and a Pringles can. I don't know if this is the most recommended way to use a macro lens, but it is cheap, very cheap. It won't teach you how to create lens from nothing, but use your current

Handling Criticism as a Photographer and in General

Knowing how to accept criticism is very important if you want to get better at what you do. There are many photographers who submit their photos to forums and contests, in order to get criticized. Even so, some people just take it too seriously, and feel that they are being bashed for the wrong reasons. The problem starts with a one's ability to see what's others are seeing. As an individual,

The Future of dSLR Cameras - Market share, Risks, Technology & Competition

Today I was troubled with an interesting question/thought: "Will digital SLR cameras will become obsolete in a few years from now?". SLR stands for Single-lens reflex [camera] (I know, you knew that already). The fact is the SLR cameras use a mirror system that allows photographers to see the photographed scene as the lens sees it. The light is transmitted through the lens, onto the mirror, up

Extreme Durability Test - Nikon D90 vs. Canon 550D, Will they survive?

Kai from DigitalRev has been doing his "lab-test" research, comparing Nikon D90 durability vs. Canon 550D durability. These durability testing videos are one of the most hilarious reviews I have ever seen. The first time I saw the video, I was laughing out loud.  In those videos, you can see Kai testing the D90 and the 550D to the extreme. Will both cameras works, and even take decent photographs

Today I want to preview the PENTAX DA L 35mm F2.4 AL lens. Pentax DA-L 35mm is the latest addition to Pentax' DA lens lineup. Whether you shoot with Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Pentax DSLRs, prime lenses will deliver excellent results.

Pentax Optio RZ10 compact super-zoom with Cats & Dogs face recognition

Pentax has announced the Optio RZ10 compact super-zoom digital camera. There is something likable about Pentax new cameras. A few years ago, Pentax digital cameras looked a bit old fashioned and lack of technology innovation. In 2009/2010, Pentax really managed to deliver some great cameras to the amateur and enthusiast market.  The Pentax RS1000 Skin-able custom camera and the Pentax K-r DSLR,

New Sigma SD15 Review from Photo Radar (September, 2010)

If you read my posts about the Sigma SD15, you can see that I have a split opinion. It seems that the Sigma SD15 review delivers inconstant results. One SD15 review said that the camera delivers soft final images, and on say that the pictures are tack sharp. After examining the reviews, I can see that many of the SD15 reviewers have been shooting in JPEG and not Sigma's 3XF RAW files. Because

Pentax Optio RS1000 - Customize your Digital Camera with Skins

Every now and then, we see some unique gimmicky features on consumer digital cameras. Most of those gimmicks are related to internal image processing and a wide variety of custom camera colors. Pentax is probably one of the pioneers in that field, with colorful DSLR cameras in their K-series lineup. Today (Sep. 9 2010), Pre-Photokina 2010, Pentax announced the availability of Pentax Optio RS1000

Pentax K-r entry-level DSLR - with Hands-on Review Videos

Pentax  has released two new compact digital cameras (Optop RZ10, Optio RS1000), a new DSLR (K-r) and one new prime interchangeable lens (DA 35mm f/2.4). In this overview, I want to target Pentax K-r entry-level DSLR camera. I was actually thinking that we won't see Pentax announcing new DLSRs, not until Photokina 2010. Luckily, a new Pentax

Nikon Coolpix S8100 - Compact Super-Zoom Digital Camera with 1080p

On September 8 2010, Nikon revealed the Nikon COOLPIX S8100 digital camera. At first look, the S8100 looks like a regular consumer telephoto-zoom compact, but the specifications tell another story.  Nikon S8100 is packed with features that really surprised me. Will Olympus E-5 be announced next week? - Rumors say Yes!

One of the most interesting rumors on the net are about Olympus E-5. I am following Olympus and 4/3 rumors sites for a few weeks now. Olympus is one of my favorite companies when it comes to technology innovations. I wasn't surprised with Canon 60D specs, when it was announced. You probably already know about Sony's SLT-A55 & A33 translucent mirror cameras, but what about Olympus?

Well, it

Canon EF 70-200mm F/4 L IS USM Lens Review Summary

Canon EF 70-200mm F/4L was proven to be one of Canon's best Telephoto-zoom lenses. Today I want to honor this new lens, and see how many positive reviews it has gotten, and if you should buy it or not. After Canon has announced the EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6L IS USM telephoto-zoom lens, the choice between the 70-300mm or the 70-300mm has become harder. Choosing a high-quality L-grade lens is not an

For a start, you need to know that only the Sony A55 has a built-in GPS device. Sony has released two translucent mirror digital cameras, the Sony SLT-A55V and the A33. Photographers want

It is time to rearrange my priorities, make more time for shooting pictures

I don't know if I have told you this, but I am working self-employed and take parts at different web development projects. I love programming, photo editing and web design, but my passion is photography. I really want to make spare time for taking photographs has I did 2 years ago. I am waiting to finish up a project that I was working on for over a year now, and I after that, I want to make as

The third option is to buy the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (~$650). Well, as you can see, there are three 70-300mm quality lenses. Before we continue, let's throw the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG APO Macro HSM II (~$1200) and Canon EF 70-

Invest more money on Better Camera body or lenses? (on a tight budget)

In an newbie photographer perspective, the DSLR camera body itself, grabs more attention than the lenses. Sometimes there is a temptation to invest most of the budget in the body, rather on the lens. For the amateur photographers who are reading this article, I want to try settle this debate (with the help of my blog readers). What is more important, investing most of your budget in high optical

Open Source Cameras - Software & Hardware Digital Imaging Solutions

As a web programmer, I find myself using open source scripts most of the time. What if we could have an open source digital camera in our hands, think of the possibilities. In this blog post, I want to discuss the future of open-source cameras and software-based digital imaging solutions. Have you ever wanted to custom your digital camera functionality? With software-based in-camera imaging
